PRP Skin Needling

What is it?

PRP Skin Needling – also know as the Vampire Facial, is a cosmetic treatment designed to rejuvenate the skin. It uses the patients own Platelet-Rich Plasma.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Microneedling: The procedure begins with microneedling, where a device equipped with fine needles creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing process, boosting collagen and elastin production, which helps improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity.
  1. PRP Application: After microneedling, a serum derived from your own blood—PRP—is applied to the treated area. PRP is rich in growth factors and platelets that enhance the healing process and further promote collagen production and skin regeneration.
  1. Healing and Results: The combination of microneedling and PRP helps to accelerate the skin’s repair processes, resulting in a smoother, more youthful complexion with reduced fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.

This dual-action treatment leverages the body’s natural healing mechanisms to achieve long-lasting skin rejuvenation and improvement.

What is the process for PRP Skin Needling?

At Bryon Eve Aesthetic and Wellness Studio, the PRP skin needling process involves several key steps to ensure effective skin rejuvenation.

  • Consultation: Before the procedure, you’ll have a consultation with our Registered Nurse to discuss your skin concerns, medical history, and treatment goals.
  • Preparation: The skin is cleansed, and a topical anaesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort during the treatment.
  • Blood Draw: A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm.
  • PRP Extraction: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins it at high speeds to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from other blood components. The resulting PRP is a concentrated serum rich in growth factors.
  • Microneedling: Using a specialized device, a series of fine needles create thousands of micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing processes and boosts collagen and elastin production.
  • Application of PRP: After microneedling, the PRP serum is applied to the treated area. The micro-channels created by the needling allow for deeper and more effective penetration of the PRP into the skin.
  • Immediate Aftercare: Your skin may be red and slightly swollen immediately after the procedure. This is normal and typically subsides within a few days.
  • Follow-Up Care: You’ll receive instructions on how to care for your skin post-treatment, which may include avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and keeping your skin hydrated.
  • Healing: The skin begins to heal and regenerate, with collagen and elastin production increasing over time.
  • Results: Improvements in skin texture, tone, and elasticity become more noticeable in the weeks following the procedure. Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results.

PRP skin needling leverages the combined benefits of microneedling and PRP to enhance skin rejuvenation and achieve a youthful, revitalized appearance.

Post Treatment Care

Post-treatment care is crucial for achieving the best results and ensuring proper healing after skin needling. Here are some key recommendations for aftercare:

Avoid Touching

Refrain from touching, scratching, or picking at your skin to prevent infection and irritation.

Keep Skin Clean

Use a gentle, non-alcoholic cleanser to cleanse your skin. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants for a few days.

Hydrate

Apply a soothing, hydrating serum or moisturizer to keep your skin moisturized. Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, which helps retain moisture.

Avoid Sun Exposure

Protect your skin from direct sunlight by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Wear a hat or seek shade when outdoors.

Avoid Heat and Sweat

Steer clear of hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for at least 24-48 hours to minimize sweating and irritation.

No Makeup

Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours, or longer if recommended by your practitioner, to prevent clogging pores and irritation and potential bacteria from entering the microchannels.

Avoid Irritating Products

Refrain from using products containing retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) for a few days to avoid irritation.

Follow Specific Instructions

Adhere to any additional care instructions provided by your nurse/ skin therapist, tailored to your specific treatment and skin type.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water to support the skin's healing process from within.

Monitor for Issues

Keep an eye on your skin for any signs of excessive redness, swelling, or infection. If you experience unusual symptoms or prolonged discomfort, contact your skincare professional.

Proper post-treatment care will help ensure that your skin heals effectively and that you achieve the best possible results from your skin needling procedure.

How Many treatments should I have?

We recommend a series of 3-4 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart. This allows skin to heal and respond. Further treatments may be recommended depending on skin type and concerns i.e. deep acne scars.
